The Naked Soul by Adrianne Munroe is a short collection of 34 poems that is a genuine reflection of healing and the baring of her soul. A book for everyone, especially young Black girls and women who have ever felt alone or as though they could never be 100 percent themselves unapologetically. A rose is the flower of her birth month, June. This flower became symbolic and represented new life. With seven roses colored white, pink, red, blue, green, orange, and yellow. The White & Pink Rose
Clean Pure Renewed
There is purity in the white rose.
Not yet tainted by darkness, covered in dust, or soiled with the soot of original sin. It is where one is made whole, restored, renewed. It is where the light begins to enter in.
The Red Rose
There is chaos in the red rose.
Harbored at a young age, this rose’s petals lay withering and decaying, constantly suffocated by a poisonous smoke filled with anger, pain, anxiety, ugly thoughts, and vicious turmoil.
The Blue Rose
Loss
The sorrow and heartbreak that encompasses losing a loved one impacted this already fragile heart. To feel as though I am in a forever state of mourning.
The Green Rose
A seed
Your hands place me down in a bed of fresh soil and dirt.
My creator shifts and guides his Earth to provide a blanket of safety and security to surround me.
The Orange Rose
The consuming fire
To burn away all that is not like you. My spirit versus my flesh.
How often I strayed from your essence and truth. Ready were you to envelop me in your accepting embrace despite each fleeting step.
The Yellow Rose
Yellow, the color of everlasting sunshine, freshly scented daffodils, sweet-tasting bananas, the embodiment of light.
This matured rose showcases the fullness of peace.
